Crafting and Engrams (Blueprints)
How crafting works, RIK's workshop, fees, the engram tree and how many points everything costs.
How to craft
Recipes are unlocked in the Survivor's Journal (B) under the "Blueprints" tab. You can craft simple things in your inventory and everything else at the workbench (the table by RIK's house). The workbench, anvil and campfire are "camp" buildings; you can place them anywhere.
Engrams
To craft an item from the tree, you need to learn its engram (blueprint) with points.
How to get points
- 3 engram points for every player level (from level 2 to 100 that's 297 points).
- +1 point for every completed story quest (there are 15).
- There are no starting points. The story gives you the first blueprints for free: stone pickaxe, wooden spear, campfire, leather flask, stone axe, stone spear, rope.
- Points never expire and are never taken away; you can save them up and spend them later.
How to learn
The blueprints window opens with the ~ key (above Tab) or the "Blueprints" button in the stats window (O), and also in the Journal (B) → "Blueprints". Learned blueprints are highlighted green, ones you can afford show an amber "Learn" button, and ones that are too expensive are locked. Each engram requires a minimum player level: below it you can't learn or craft it. All recipes are visible in advance so you have something to aim for, but anything not learned can't be crafted ("Learn the engram first").
The tree has 34 engrams for 251 points in total; by level 100 you'll have points to spare.
Workshop fee
The workshop belongs to RIK and charges a fee for the work (the fee is burned):
| Item tier | T1 | T2 | T3 | T4 | T5 | T6 | T7 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fee, ASD | 2 | 6 | 15 | 100 | 200 | 350 | 500 |
Your first 3 crafts are free. Items outside the tree count as tier T1. Repairs cost part of the fee (T1–T3: tier × (0.5 + wear); T4–T7: 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 ASD × (1 + wear)).

Weapon metals
Titanium, bronze, silver and gold weapons are not part of the engram tree and don't require points: they're made from a level-10 blade of the previous metal (see Weapon Metals), with a minimum player level from 15 to 75. Fee tiers T4–T7 are for these items (mapping to metals is TBD).
Items without an engram
The flask, fishing rod, ammo, Marlin rifle, locks and lockpicks, gas masks, filters, dosimeter, deeds and tack are found, bought or made under separate rules. The full catalog is in the Item Catalog.
